Study visas are issued to minor foreign children attending primary and high school as well as adults studying at tertiary educational institutions in South Africa.

South African study visas are issued to foreigners intending to study in South Africa for longer than three months at institutions approved by the Department of Home Affairs. These institutions include primary, tertiary, and higher education institutions. Depending on the institution, study visas can be issued for up to eight years. Note that recent immigration amendments have narrowed the definition of approved learning institutions, so it's essential to verify that your school is authorized to enroll foreign students. Study visas are issued on the following basis:

Acceptance letter from Approved Institution: A letter of provisional acceptance or acceptance from the learning institution stating the duration of the course must be submitted.

Proof of Financial Means: Demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover tuition fees and living expenses.

Medical and Radiological Reports: Provide a medical certificate and, if applicable, a radiological report.

Medical Insurance: Have valid medical insurance for the duration of your stay.

Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days beyond the intended period of stay.

Consent for Minors: If you are under 18, parental or guardian consent is required.

Study visa holders are not permitted to work as defined by the Immigration Act. However, students at higher education institutions may work part-time for up to 20 hours per week with authorization. Additionally, work may be authorized for students required to complete practical training as part of their studies.
